Seneca Valley School Board recognized some of the district's bus drivers Monday night as a parent thanked the district for addressing a transit issue.
Five drivers with ABC Transit, one of two companies with which Seneca Valley School District contracts for busing, received the 2020-21 Pennsylvania School Board Association Safe Driver Award. Each of them, according to the district, provides service that “goes above and beyond,” and each has at least 20 consecutive years of collision-free driving.
Herb Fletcher, Kathy Richards, Linda Scheidemantle, Pam Cosky and the late Ray Albert were selected for the award, and will receive a plaque and pin and will be featured in a “yearbook” distributed by the board association.
Later on, a parent who'd previously spoken about issues with her child's bus route thanked the board after the issue was addressed. Emily Droesch, who has an elementary school-aged son, said two bus routes were adjusted to help fix an issue where drivers were finishing a route before doubling back and starting a second at the end of the day. Now, she said, her child gets “home at a much more reasonable time.”
“I'm so grateful that I was able to speak, be heard and see a realized solution,” Droesch said.
