Responsible Gambling
You must be 21 or older (or the legal minimum age in your state) to bet. Nothing on Sportsbook Promos is aimed at anyone younger.
Betting is a paid form of entertainment, and you can lose money. It is not income, and it is not a fix for money trouble. This page explains how to keep betting within safe limits, how promotions can nudge behavior, and where to get free help. Facts here were reviewed as of Sep 29, 2026.

How promotions can affect your betting
Welcome bonuses, free bets, deposit matches and odds boosts can look like extra money. They are marketing, and they come with conditions. Rollover requirements, minimum odds and expiration dates can push you to bet more, or bet faster, than you planned.
- Never deposit more than you planned just to reach a match cap. A larger bonus means a larger rollover, and more money at risk.
- Ignore countdown timers. If an offer expires before you can use it comfortably, skip it. A missed promotion costs nothing.
- Do not chase losses with a reload bonus, a "second chance" bet or a bigger stake. Losses are not something a promotion can win back.
- Read the terms first. Check whether bonus funds are withdrawable, what wagering applies, and which payment methods qualify.
Warning signs to take seriously
- Betting more money or for longer than you meant to
- Borrowing, or using rent, bills or savings money to bet
- Trying to win back losses
- Feeling restless or irritable when you cut back
- Betting to escape stress, loneliness or low mood
- Lying about how much you bet
- Skipping work, school or family time for betting
Even one of these is a reason to pause. Skill and knowledge of a sport do not remove the risk of losing.
Set limits before you bet
Licensed US sportsbooks generally offer account tools, though exact options vary by operator and state. Check the account settings or responsible gaming section of any site you use. Common tools include:
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Deposit limits | Caps how much you can add daily, weekly or monthly |
| Wager or loss limits | Restricts how much you can stake or lose in a period |
| Time-outs | Locks your account for a short, fixed break |
| Self-exclusion | Blocks your account for a long period or permanently |
| Activity statements | Shows your history so you can see your real spending |
Set a monthly budget from money that is truly spare, and set limits while you are calm, not mid-losing streak. Many states also run their own statewide self-exclusion programs, so check your state gaming regulator's site.
Offshore sites carry extra risk
Several brands that appear in our rankings, including Lucky Rebel, Bovada, BetOnline, BetNow, Everygame, BetUS, Sportsbetting, Xbet, MyBookie and ApuestaHoy, are the kind of sites US bettors often find through search. We have not verified the licensing or regulatory status of any of them, and we do not claim it.
Where a site is not licensed by your state, state consumer protections and dispute processes may not apply. State-level self-exclusion may not cover it, and there is an added risk that the operator may not pay out. Our editorial ratings are not customer-review scores and are not a promise of safety or payment.
- Check whether sports betting is legal in your state, and whether the operator is licensed there.
- Read the withdrawal and bonus terms in full before depositing.
- Only deposit an amount you are fully comfortable losing.
- Use the site's own limit tools, and keep records of your deposits.
Headline offers, such as a percentage match up to a dollar cap, always come with rollover terms that you should read on the operator's own site. For how we handle offers, see our Terms and Conditions.
If you want to stop
- Request self-exclusion or a long time-out from each account you hold.
- Delete betting apps and unsubscribe from promotional emails and texts.
- Ask your bank about gambling transaction blocks on cards.
- Tell someone you trust, and call 1-800-GAMBLER for support.
Tax and legal questions about winnings or your state's rules are best put to a qualified professional.
Our approach
We review promotions to explain conditions plainly, not to pressure you. Commercial relationships may earn us commission, but they do not buy ranking position. Learn more about us, or reach us through the contact page with concerns.
